The most points by a team in NFL history happened all the way back in 1966 when Washington scored 72 points. The Dolphins had a chance to break the record on Sunday with a last minute field goal but opted to take a knee instead.
When asked about the decision to not kick the field goal, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said, "I didn't want to stomp on them for 60 straight minutes. 59 minutes is fine. But 60 would of just been disrespectful." Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa agrees with McDaniel's statement, saying, "We just thought it would be humiliating to lose by 53 instead of 50."
The Broncos were very appreciative of the sportsmanship displayed by the Dolphins. "We were going to make serious changes if we lost by 53 points, but thankfully now we can continue being mediocre for another 7 years," said Broncos GM George Payton.
